7-8-9 Language Arts
Welcome to Mrs. Portschy's home page for the Rawlins County School website.
This page will help you understand what is being taught in the 7-8-9 Language Arts classroom at
Rawlins County Junior-Senior High School.
Mrs. Portschy's Biographical Information:
I am a 1985 graduate of Stockton High School. I graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1990 with a BS in Elementary Education (grades Kindergarten-9th grade) . I also have the Middle School endorsement for English grades 5-9. I taught 1st and 2nd grade at Herndon School for 14 years. Upon the consolidation of our schools, I began teaching Language Arts 7-8-9 in 2004. I enjoy reading, scrapbooking, gardening, golfing and spending time with family and friends. I am married to Dean and we have two sons, Marcus and Neil.
Character Education in the Freshman Class:
Our school was chosen as a Leader School for Power 2 Achieve in March 2012 and was visited by three evaluators from the Institute for Excellence and Ethics (the company who markets P2A) in April. They spent the day talking with students and faculty about the impact Character Education has on our school climate.
This program is designed to help the students leave Rawlins County School with the tools needed to get along in the 21st century and our ever-changing world.
The Power 2 Achieve program will begin this year in October.
