Adventures at the Hayden Nature Trail

On May 15, Rawlins County Third Graders enjoyed a morning of learning activities at the Hayden Nature Trail. The event was sponsored by the Outdoor Wildlife Learning Site and committee members lead the activities. The students enjoyed learning about skins and skulls by Amber Barnes; animal tracks and the cottonwood star by Brenda Henry; and Diane Montgomery-Cox lead an activity in which the students used their observation skills to examine fallen logs. Diane lead an activity titled “Oh, Deer” in which the students learned how populations of animals change due to changes in environment and the effects of man.  A nature walk of the trail finished up the morning. The activities met state science standards and teachers are encouraged to use the nature trail whenever possible.
