FFA County Collective Booth 2007

Atwood FFA Recieve Grand Champion Honors

September 12, 2007

The Atwood FFA remains the champs with their County Collective Booth at the 2007 Kansas State Fair.

The Atwood FFA has been working hard on creating a new and exciting County Collective Booth for the Kansas State Fair this year.  For the past four months FFA members have been collecting a variety of crops such as wheat, barley, sunflowers, milo, apples, grapes, etc.  The fair changed the theme this year to “Hangin’ with the Hogs” so the members came up with an orange and black design that followed the Harley Davidson colors.  With the creativity of Pattie Wolters we were able to have the logo cut out of mat board and the hogs wearing their FFA jackets.  It added the perfect touch to a long lived tradition.

A group of six students went down to Hutchinson on Friday, September 7th at an early 5am road trip to set up the booth.  Among them were Audrey Basgall, Billy McCain, Kayla McCain, Wanda McCain, Kaitlin Merz and Jordan Mizer with advisor Amber Sharpe.  Cynthia Dixson and Loretta Heffner came to help while Miss Sharpe went to pick up lunch.

They were even able to snag former FFA member Dalton Holliman to help put up the finishing touches.  As the day progressed they were able to see the booth unfold and finally the end was in sight.  A grueling six hours later the booth was up and the crew was tired, but there was not time to waste.  After a day of careful measuring, precise judgment and a little bit of sweat it was time to go and see the fair and have a little more fun.  This is a great time for the students to take a ride on the twirling UFO or be spun into a dizzy spell on the twister.  They were also able to walk through the livestock barns and see the other 4-H and FFA animals from around the state.
