Atwood FFA at Greenhand Conference

Greenhands are FFA members in their first year of membership. This is a year of development, learning and new experiences. Each district in Kansas hosts a conference put together especially for these new members. This is a time for them to interact with District and State FFA officers, learn about the new places that the FFA can take them and develop the confidence needed to succeed in high school and beyond. They learn how to write S.M.A.R.T. goals for themselves and the chapter, learn about all the events available to them in the next few years, and how important they are to the greatest student organization in the country.
Alex Bebb, Jill Bergling, Wendy Fields, Eric Holub, Jordan Mizer, Leah Sharp and Kevin Wolters were among the members active in the Greenhand Conference this year.
The FFA Creed was written by E.M. Tiffany and adopted at the 3rd National FFA Convention. This is a creed that is studied in class and ingrained in FFA members across the country. It begins by stating "I believe in the future of agriculture..." and ends with "I believe that American agriculture can and will hold true to the best traditions of our National life, and that I can exert an influence in my home and community, which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task." The FFA Creed is six sentences describing the passion, dedication and vision of the FFA. Every year two members from each chapter are given the privilege of saying this creed at the Greenhand conference. This year Leah Sharp and Kevin Wolters were chosen to represent the Atwood FFA chapter. Both did an outstanding job. There are many actions learned as well as the words and confidence needed to present it. The Atwood FFA would like to thank Mrs. Pattie Wolters for all her help preparing these two students for the Creed Speaking competition.
