Regular Meeting and Budget Hearing
August 21, 2006
The regular monthly meeting of the Rawlins County USD #105 Board of Education was called to order on Monday, August 21, 2006, at 5:45 p.m. by President, Pattie Wolters. Those in attendance include Bill, Beamgard, Andy Green, Brad Leitner, Kirk Lowry, Chris Sramek, Sylvia Walker, Mark Wolters, Kurt Dillon, Pam Dillon and Kathy Davis-Vrbas, Rawlins County Square Deal representative.
ROUTINE ITEMS:
07-23 Motion by Brad Leitner, seconded by Kirk Lowry to approve the agenda with additions, as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
07-24 Motion by Andy Green, seconded by Brad Leitner to approve the minutes from July 17, 2006. Motion carried 7-0.
REPORTS:
07-25 Superintendent’s Report – Mr. Wolters included the following in his report:
• KASB Convention, December 1-3 in Wichita, KS
• KASB Boardsmanship Academy Award recipient, Pattie Wolters
• District Enrollment Update
• Retirement Reception for Janice Knapp and Lois Smith
07-26 Mr. Dillon reported on the follwoing:
• Cheerleader Retreat update
• Fall Sports participation
• First day of school
07-27 No NKESC Report
07-28 No Board Committee Reports
BUDGET HEARING:
07-29 Motion by Kirk Lowry, seconded by Chris Sramek to approve the Budget for the 2006-07 school year. Motion carried 7-0.
ACTION ITEMS:
07-30 Nex-Tech Wireless School Rebate Program
07-31 Motion by Bill Beamgard, seconded by Sylvia Walker to accept the bid from Kyle Grafel, in the amount of $1975.00 for the 1994 Dodge Intrepid. Motion carried 7-0.
07-32 Motion by Andy Green, seconded by Chris Sramek to approve the first reading of the policy, EDBA- PreSchool Student Transportation. Motion carried 7-0. The board requested that Mr. Wolters seek additional information on this policy from KASB for presentation at the board meeting in September.
07-33 Motion by Bill Beamgard, seconded by Brad Leitner to approve the payment of Claims. Motion carried 7-0.
PERSONNEL/ EXECUTIVE SESSION
07-34 Motion by Andy Green to offer .Virgil “Pete” Portschy a bus driver contract for transporting students following athletic practices to the Herndon School.
Motion by Sylvia Walker, seconded by Brad Leitner to offer a contract to Robert Brown for elementary part time custodian and high school part time cook. Motion carried 7-0.
Motion by Bill Beamgard, seconded by Brad Leitner to enter into executive session for 5 minutes, beginning at 8:05 p.m. for discussion regarding a student issue. Motion carried 7-0.
